Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we choose a private agency?
A private agency like The Adoption Alliance can provide a full range of adoption services to adoptive couples. They can locate and screen birth parents. They can provide counseling for all parties. They can oversee the prenatal care arrangements for the birth mother. They can manage all legal proceedings and make arrangements for relinquishment of the child.

What if I don’t need all-inclusive adoption services?
For adoptive couples who do not require a full range of services, The Adoption Alliance is available to provide specific services necessary to complete a successful adoption.

We don’t live in Texas? Why would we choose an out-of-state agency?
There are numerous advantages to working with a Texas agency. Texas does not have residency requirements for either birth parents or adoptive parents. Agency relinquish documents are irrevocable. Living expenses, which can help a birth mother in need through her pregnancy, are allowable through the agency.

Can I meet the birth mother? Will she want to have a relationship with our family?
The Adoption Alliance offers two types of "identified" adoption plans, under which adoptive parents and birth mothers have the opportunity to meet and get to know one another. Identified adoption allows birth and adoptive parents to develop and maintain a close relationship throughout the pregnancy and following placement.

What about the birth mother’s expenses?
A financial needs assessment for eligible birth mothers requiring assistance will be prepared by The Adoption Alliance. In Texas, certain expenses may be paid for the benefit of or on behalf of a birth parent, by an adoptive family through an agency. These expenses may include housing, food, medical care, and transportation.

What is the Interstate Compact and how will it affect us?
The Interstate Compact For Placement of Children is a law governing adoptions between parties who reside in different states. The purpose of the law is to establish orderly procedures for placing children across state lines. The Adoption Alliance works closely with the administrators of the Interstate Compact in Texas and can provide expert guidance to out-of-state adoptive parents seeking to adopt.
