Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is adoption?
Adoption
is the legal placement of a child with a family who
will raise the child as their own.
Is
adoption permanent?
Yes.
The child becomes a permanent and legal part of the
adoptive family, with full rights of inheritance.
By their own choice, birth parents legally and
permanently relinquish their parental rights.
How
will I know my baby is in a good home?
A birth mother working with The Adoption
Alliance can
participate in selecting the adoptive family for
her baby. She can meet and talk to the adoptive
parents. If she wishes, she can receive pictures
and news of the child after the adoption takes
place.
Will
I be obligated to place my baby for adoption if I
contact The Adoption Alliance?
No.
Our staff members will answer your questions and
provide information as requested, but the ultimate
decision to place a baby for adoption rests with
you.
Will
I feel sad or guilty about placing my baby for
adoption?
The
choice of adoption is a difficult decision to make.
It may be easier to say, "Ill keep my baby."
But you need to think about what is best for your
baby, for yourself, and for others who are close to
you. You will always remember the child, but will
find strength in the fact that you gave the child
life and made a responsible, unselfish plan for his
or her future.
Are
there adoptive families available for older and
minority children?
Yes.
Families are available who are requesting and
searching for these children.
